About the Idaho Press Club

The Idaho Press Club is a statewide association of working journalists, from all media; we also count among our members journalism students and teachers, public relations professionals and retired journalists. Our mission is to promote excellence in journalism, freedom of expression and freedom of information.

We sponsor an annual journalism contest to recognize the best work in Idaho, along with a gala awards banquet each spring; we sponsor a professional development conference for our members each fall; we advocate for open meetings, open public records and Cameras in the Courtroom; we award the annual Don Watkins Memorial Scholarship for students and the Don Watkins Mid-Career Scholarship for mid-career Idaho journalists; and we have other activities both through our statewide club and our chapters, from newsy “Headliner” luncheons with newsmakers to social get-togethers with our colleagues.

The Idaho Press Club is unique in that we don’t represent just one type of media – we welcome newspaper reporters, broadcast journalists, radio reporters, photographers, bloggers, magazine writers and more. Unlike many other media organizations, our members aren’t news outlets, companies or publications – they are people, the working journalists who report, write and edit for all of Idaho’s various forms of news media.
