The Delicate Balance: Judges, Juries, Lawyers and Journlists

Are you an attorney who's felt compelled to say, "No comment," to a reporter? Are you an attorney who doesn't return reporters' phone calls? Are you a reporter who wonders, "Couldn’t that lawyer have just answered my questions or at least returned my call?" Would you like to learn more about the interaction of the legal system and the court of public opinion (and get 2.0 CLE credits in the process if you're an attorney)?

Leading members of Idaho's legal community and the fourth estate will explore the often complex interaction of lawyers, the courts and the media on April 15 in Boise.

A Public Affairs Seminar on Law and JournalismThe American approach to justice, embodied in the U.S. Constitution and influenced by more than two centuries of tradition and precedent, is one of the fundamental strengths of the United States. The First Amendment to the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of the press, is of equal importance to the American system. From time to time, the rights inherent in the justice system conflict with the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. Judges, juries, lawyers and journalists find that they must carefully work to maintain "a delicate balance" of conflicting rights.
