Boise Inc., an international manufacturer of paper and packaging products with headquarters in Boise, Idaho, is seeking freelance journalists to produce news stories for our internal electronic news service and our printed employee newsletter.

Can you can whip out a chart, graph or graphic illustration on deadline without breaking a sweat, and create compelling, clean news pages for both main news and special sections? If so, the Juneau Empire has a job waiting for you in Alaska’s capital city.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years experience on deadline in a daily newsroom designing pages, processing photos and seeing those pages through to the pressroom. Problem solving is part of the job, and so is keeping up with our constantly improving design and prepress technology.

Copyediting and headline writing skills are also necessary (AP Style, spelling and grammar skills are not optional), and experience uploading copy to the Web and organizing video clips for upload is highly desirable.

Our Pulitzer Prize-winning staff photographer provides plenty of high-quality art, and our natural surroundings are among the most stunning in the world.

The Empire is the capital city’s daily newspaper.  We have a crisp layout style and are open to improvements. 

Knowledge of Indesign, PhotoShop and the Microsoft Office suite is required, and knowledge of Adobe illustrator is a plus.

News Editor/Reporter

The Ritzville Adams County Journal has an immediate opening for News Editor/Reporter for our weekly community newspaper. The newspaper is 125 years old and a recent WNPA General Excellence Award-winning publication.

The ideal candidate is passionate about community journalism and has a fondness for small-town life. You must be willing to embrace the tradition and role of a weekly newspaper while comfortable with integrating a website and social media. This is a small staff that must work as a team in order to meet our readers expectations.

This is a role for a determined self-starter who has excellent time management skills and who will meet deadlines. The right candidate will be able to plan, coordinate and deliver coverage for a weekly newspaper and several annual special sections. Expect to write breaking news, generate entertaining community features, provide coverage of local government and occasionally tackle a sports story or business profile.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 1 to 3 years of newsroom experience. Please understand evening and weekend work is expected. Possess reliable (24/7) access to a vehicle. Be proficient in photography and have your own camera. Understand the open records and public meetings laws. There are bonus points for candidates who have a working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, websites and social networking.

  • For this position we are only interested in pursuing qualified applicants with an impressive balance of strong interpersonal skills. This includes more than just writing and reporting talents. It requires a strong penchant for in-depth interviews, creative story-telling, pursuing a unique perspective and a willingness to think outside of the box from conception to finished product.
  • Specifically, we're looking for an inquisitive, open-minded individual with the natural ability to communicate and form strong relationships across a wide spectrum of social, cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Must have a good understanding of the American inland boating community and the relationship between marine industry representatives and their retail customers. Must also have a deep understanding and appreciation for the "spirit" of recreational boating and what drives the interests and passions of our readers.
  • Photography skills are also a requirement, including operation of DSLR cameras with a full suite of interchangeable lenses and portable lighting systems. Basic photo editing skills are a plus, as are skills in multi-media production for website slideshows and videos.

Applicants must be extremely well organized, motivated and flexible with timing (deadlines are important in this industry)! A positive, energetic do-whatever-it-takes attitude is a must! Also, should be able to take direction and work collaboratively with colleagues in a fast-paced, creative environment.

The Valley Citizen, an award-winning weekly newspaper in Driggs, Idaho, is looking for a full time director of sales.

The Valley Citizen has enjoyed increased circulation and revenues over the course of two years and is seeking a professional and positive person to fill this key position on our team.

Responsibilities include selling print and web advertising both locally and regionally as well as helping advertisers plan a successful marketing campaign. We offer a base salary and sales commission.

Teton Valley, Idaho, is home to Grand Targhee Resort and the Teton Mountains. Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, are in our backyard.
